Case Study: Willmotts DJB
“It’s just brilliant – a vast improvement on my old security system. I’ve already recommended iFacility to other companies and would have no hesitation in doing so again.” That was the umprompted recommendation from Willmotts DJB’s Managing Director when he saw the solution that iFacility had delivered.
Willmotts DJB is a leading transport logistics and distribution company. It is based at the quiet hamlet of Waterlip near Shepton Mallet in Somerset. Here, when not on the roads of the UK and Europe, you’ll find their extensive fleet of vehicles – from modest 7.5 tonne panel vans though to 44 tonne lorries. Waterlip is also home to their equally extensive warehouses.
The Managing Director was unhappy with the company’s outdated analogue system:
“We wanted to move forward with the times, and knew that IP CCTV was the way to go. Viewing and storing video on our computer network made sense. iFacility visited the transport yard and understood exactly what we needed. Their solution included an alarm system and access control, offering a host of other benefits that were a major improvement on our existing security system.”
iFacility supplied IP CCTV, a sophisticated alarm system and access control for Willmotts’ 16 acre transport yard.
The Managing Director explains:
“We have 32 external cameras covering the entrance and exits from our 3 yards. We also have a dome camera which I can manipulate, meaning I can monitor activity across the site.” The solution includes three crucial components that work together to produce an integrated system:
- IP CCTV: “I have two screens in my office displaying clear live video from every camera. This means that I can monitor all 3 site’s without having to leave my desk. I also access the CCTV on my phone when I’m away from the site. I can easily view old video when I need to, just by entering the date and time on my computer.”
- Alarm system: “The site now has increased security with an alarm system that’s connected to the CCTV. An alert is raised if someone walks into a zoned area in our transport yard. On-site managers are alerted initially, followed, if required, by the police.”
- Access control: “Both external and internal CCTV covers our driver welfare facility, protecting employees and their possessions. There are five security locks giving us total confidence in the system. I know when and where people are at all times”
The Managing Director sums up his experiences of working with iFacility: “I’m very pleased – iFacility are always there when I need them and respond to queries quickly. I’ve recommended iFacility to other businesses.”

They have a very large base with three yards and a large number of buildings.
The location - in mid Somerset - is rural and needs extensive monitoring: it could be regarded a high risk given the large number of vehicles of high value on site, and stored goods. Any solution would need to include an integrated alarm system.
Security is now increased across all the yards and the buildings. The Managing Director - and his nominated staff - can monitor live video from any of the 32 cameras on site and use a dome camera to quickly zoom in on any specific incidents.
Should an alarm situation occur, staff can see the output from the cameras no matter where they are, day or night.
Historical footage can be examined by simply entering the date and time and look more closely.
Though initially a security and surveillance solution, the iFacility system also allows the office and management staff to look after the welfare of their operational and driving staff, protecting them as well as protecting the company assets.
